The Righteous (Vincent, Bateman, Dutch, and Vita VonStarr) had been featured in the previous era of ROH, as the group won the ROH World-Six Man Tag Team Championship. The group wasn’t initially brought into the new ROH when Tony Khan acquired the company. They made a one-off appearance dropped the titles at ROH Death Before Dishonor 2022.
The Righteous returned at ROH Supercard of Honor 2023, and they were featured on ROH programming for a few months. They then appeared in a video message on the August 18 episode of AEW Rampage and announced that they were coming to AEW. Dutch and Vincent subsequently competed on a battle royale on the September 1 episode of the show.
Speaking with Bryan Asbury on Developmentally Speaking, Dutch confirmed that they are signed with AEW, and he expressed his excitement.
“Everything’s going great. Couldn’t be better. We’re officially signed with AEW now, so yeah, it’s a big deal. It’s a big deal for us. We want to create something that people haven’t seen in a long time. I know we’re gonna be getting comparisons to The Wyatt Family and this and that, but everything’s been done already. There will never be another Bray Wyatt, nothing will ever compare to him or his creativity, or the way that his brain works. Nobody will ever be like him ever again. Like I said, we’re obviously gonna be getting the comparisons, but the stuff that we have in mind for our future is brand-new and exciting stuff, and some fun stuff on the way, hopefully,” Dutch said.
Dutch also noted that he wants to make memories and be remembered. He made it clear that The Righteous is aiming to make a statement in AEW
