Dustin Rhodes On NXT: ‘I Don’t Look At It As Competition’

Largely representing the WWE throughout the Monday night ratings battle with WCW, Dustin Rhodes is no stranger to ratings victories carrying a considerable amount of weight in the locker room. However, this is a new era and the elder brother of AEW EVP Cody doesn’t feel NXT and All Elite Wrestling’s head-to-head competition on Wednesday nights is all it’s cracked up to be.

Speaking to Austin Chronicle, the man formerly known as Goldust opened up about his primary focus being All Elite Wrestling and what they produce bell-to-bell.

“I don’t look at it as competition,” Dustin began. “I look at it as us putting on the best television show that we possibly can.”

Television shows need a compelling cast of characters, and for Dustin Rhodes, he’s passionate about watching and helping to plant the seeds to allow AEW to grow. For Rhodes, this means instilling a more reserved in-ring mentality with an emphasis on promo and character work.

“Less is more, man,” he said. “That’s a big thing for me, teaching them how to talk and working on their promos, bringing out their characters.”

To wrap up, Dustin would say he’s far from finished in the Sports Entertainment industry.

“It’s not over yet,” he said. “I have a lot to do.”
