Doudrop Waited Over A Decade To Face Becky Lynch, Recalls Lynch Taking A Hiatus From Pro Wrestling

Doudrop waited a long time to wrestle Becky Lynch.

The match the WWE Raw Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble this year was Doudrop vs. Becky Lynch. Unusual for WWE, this match featured two villains going at it in a singles capacity. However, digging deeper Beyond what was presented on television, this match was well over a decade in the making with Doudrop waiting a long time to wrestle someone she first became familiar with when she was known as “Rebecca Knox.”

“So way back when I was first starting out in a little tiny warehouse in Linwood, Scotland—I don’t even know if you know where that is—I was just starting out,” Doudrop tells Sean Ross Sapp in an exclusive interview recorded prior to the 2022 Royal Rumble. “Nikki Cross was just starting out. There wasn’t a whole lot of girls on the scene, as such. But one girl that was and was even back then top of the game, was one Rebecca Knox. I really wanted to try to get to work with her, so I could learn from her and stuff. My trainer made efforts to get her over, but she was just packing things up quietly and Irish goodbying it out the back door so we never quite got it to happen. So I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.”

Recalling Becky Lynch leaving professional wrestling for a short length of time, Doudrop says it was never fully determined whether or not Becky Lynch was just done wrestling at the time. Of course, Lynch was not done and Doudrop would eventually get her match with Rebecca Knox on one of the grandest stages that WWE could ever offer, the Royal Rumble.

“It wasn’t 100% clear that she was having a break or stuff like that. She was just like, ‘Oh, yeah. Maybe. Just taking some time. So, you know…’ We’re like, ‘Oh, alright. Cool.’ Undetermined amount of time later…”

Ultimately, Doudrop was unable to defeat Becky Lynch on that night but, because of their moral alignment on-screen, Doudrop and Becky Lynch would be teaming together on Monday Night Raw.

We have live coverage of Monday Night Raw every Monday night beginning at 8 p.m. eastern time when the show starts on the USA Network.
