Don Callis Says Comparing The Elite To The NWO Is Akin To Comparing ‘Apples To Dog Turds’

“The Invisible Hand” knows how to stir the pot.

Don Callis is, in many ways, quickly becoming the bridge to the forbidden door. An EVP of IMPACT Wrestling, Don Callis is helping facilitate working relationships that at one point were deemed inconceivable. Don Callis is also a regular character on AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite where he acts as the manager for Kenny Omega and the reformed Elite faction.

Featuring many of the original Bullet Club members, The Elite is now portraying the characters that initially launched them into superstardom and helped facilitate the modern-day wrestling boom.

Because of this faction’s mannerisms and the boom that they have caused, they often are seen as parallel to the New World Order from WCW in the mid-90s.

In a new interview with Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone, Callis addressed these comparisons and stated that from the perspective of a sheer talent level, comparing The Elite to the NWO would be like comparing apples to dog turds. Specifically, Callis addressed the comparison of Kenny Omega to Hulk Hogan, noting how far apart they are from a bell-to-bell perspective.

“I don’t know what people wanna see. I mean, you have Don Callis, you have the Good Brothers on AEW TV, whenever we wanna be. Why is Tony Khan allowing that to happen? Well, guess what? Kenny Omega and I have the AEW World Championship. Now we also have the Young Bucks,” Callis boasted, “now we also have the Good Brothers. That’s power.”

He continued, “This is, and many people have been speculating, this is the most powerful—if you wanna call it a stable—in wrestling since the nWo and let’s face it, the talent in this [group] is much better. You wanna compare, it’s not even apples to apples. It’s apples to dog turds. If you want to try to compare the Young Bucks to Hall and Nash or try to compare Kenny Omega to Hulk Hogan, that’s a joke from a talent perspective. You wanna compare the Young Bucks to Hall and Nash, that’s a joke from a talent perspective. As great as I think Scott Hall was as a wrestler, I think Karl Anderson’s much better. So this is the best and most powerful group of wrestlers that have come together across company lines, so my mission was never to, ‘let me see how many IMPACT wrestlers I can get onto AEW’, or ‘how many AEW wrestlers I can get onto IMPACT.’ That was never the point. So if what people want is to see some sort of open-door policy working arrangement, I’ll leave that to Tony and Scott. That’s not my agenda at all.”

Kenny Omega will have the opportunity to become the champion of Don Callis’ promotion when he takes on Rich Swann in a title unification match on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at IMPACT Rebellion. Fightful will have live coverage of the event.
