Dominik Mysterio Was Told To ‘Smile More’ As A Babyface: I Felt Like I Had To Match My Dad’s Energy

Dominik Mysterio prefers being a heel.

Dominik Mysterio turned heel on his father, Rey Mysterio, at WWE Clash at the Castle 2022. Subsequently joining The Judgment Day, Dom has displayed more charisma as a villain, and he says that a villainous role is more of a natural fit for him.

His father is seen as one of the top babyfaces in modern history, but Dominik, as he said to Konnan on the K100 podcast, felt that his pairing with his father forced him to be an exaggerated version of himself.

“When I first started with my dad, it just seemed like an over-exaggerated version of me,” Dom said. “I’m very laid back and very calm, and I just felt like I had to match my dad’s energy. So it was always very like, always smiling because they were like, ‘Dude, you got a great smile, you gotta smile more.'”

Furthermore, Mysterio says that being a villain makes him feel he has more options and variety at his disposal.

“I felt like I had more options and more variety to play with as a heel and stuff. I did feel a lot more comfortable. Plus, when I was training before I debuted when I would do matches, I would always be the bad guy. I’d always be the heel working the babyface in training, so it kind of just came a little bit more natural and comfortable for me,” said Dom.

Dom, in WWE storyline, has even done some hard time. His mother and father had him arrested after he and Rhea Ripley tried to crash their Christmas get-together. Now, he is telling the horror stories of his time behind bars on episodes of Monday Night Raw.

Thanks to Dominik, Judgment Day is now the number one contender for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship. Fans can learn more about how they earned that spot at this link.
