Dominik Mysterio Recalls Working WWE SummerSlam 2020 On A Per-Appearance Deal

Dominik Mysterio says he didn’t have an official contract when he made his WWE in-ring debut.

Dominik Mysterio says he didn’t have an official contract when he made his WWE in-ring debut.

As Rey Mysterio’s son, Domink made a few appearances over the years before he became a key part of Rey’s feud with Seth Rollins in 2020. After Rey lost an Eye for an Eye Match at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules, Dominik wrestled in his first official bout when he faced Rollins in a Street Fight at WWE SummerSlam.

Speaking on Keepin It 100 with Konnan, Dominik was asked to recall how he felt when he got his first big check. He brought up how he had that moment before he had an official contract, as he was working on a per-deal show when he competed at SummerSlam 2020. He noted that they were in the middle of negotiations, but he accepted the opportunity to perform on the show.

“So actually, it was before I went on contract because I was getting paid per show and, per [appearance], I did SummerSlam without being on a contract. So I got paid for that pay-per-view. We were in the middle of negotiations. So it was all kind of being handled at the time, but in good faith, I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll do it. This is the opportunity of a lifetime.’ So, I jumped on it. After that SummerSlam and that following — because I did SummerSlam and then Monday Night Raw, and then that following week we did Payback when I tagged with my dad for the first time, like back-to-back so I got two pay-per-view checks and a couple of TV checks in one sitting. That’s when I was like, ‘Oh shit, this is pretty great,'” Dominik said.

Dominik remains a featured member of the WWE roster. In 2021, he and Rey Mysterio won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship; in doing so, they became the first father-son duo to win tag team titles together in WWE history. Eventually, Dominik turned on Rey at WWE Clash at the Castle 2022. Since then, he has been a key member of The Judgment Day alongside Damian Priest, Finn Balor, and Rhea Ripley.

In the same interview, Dominik stated that he feels more comfortable as a heel. Click here to see what he had to say.

Dominik recently commented on his brief stay in “prison”. More information is available here.

On the January 23 episode of WWE Raw, Dominik and Priest will challenge The Usos for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship. Check out the card here.
