Dolph Ziggler: Kurt Angle Was So Good That I Got A WWE Tryout
At WrestleMania 35, Baron Corbin defeated Kurt Angle in Angle’s retirement match.
Angle has a series of matches with various competitors leading up to the match including bouts against AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Chad Gable, and more.
Speaking to Comedy Store Wrestling, Dolph Ziggler said that he was hoping he would get to be Angle’s final opponent.
“That Kurt match, they didn’t tell us who was going to do it until a couple of weeks out and I was like, ‘Man, are they finally going to give me a singles match at WrestleMania and I get to be in the ring with my hero Kurt Angle.’ The reason I have a job in wrestling because I came in at 5’11” 180 pounds is because Kurt Angle was doing so well that they gave me a shot. He was so good that I got a tryout. I was like, ‘I finally get a Mania match, finally get a one-on-one, it’s my hero.’ I don’t even care if I win or lose, retirement that’s cool. I was very jealous of that,” Ziggler said.
Ziggler’s answer came after he was asked who he would like to retire and who he would like to retire him with Angle vs. Corbin being a reference point. Ziggler did face Angle in a singles bout at WWE Crown Jewel 2018.
Ziggler said he would like to retire The Miz, John Morrison, and Matt Cardona in a multi-person match and he would like his brother Ryan Nemeth to retire him.
