Director Sean Durkin Scripting Film On The Von Erich Family
Director Sean Durkin is working on a script about the life of the Von Erich family.
According to Deadline, Durkin is working with Tessa Ross, the former Film4 chief, and Juliette Howell who are producing under their banner House Productions. BBC Films chief Rose Garnett is also on board and is co-financing development with House.
“I’m very excited about this one,” said Durkin. “It’s another family portrait, about a wrestling family who revolutionized the sport and then suffered tragedy.”
Durkin directed “Martha Marcy May Marlene” and his new film “The Nest” will premiere at Sundance on Jan. 26.
Further details on the Von Erich film were not given.
Previous documentaries on the Von Erich family include “ESPN 30 For 30: Wrestling The Curse” and “Dark Side of the Ring: The Last of the Von Erichs.” The Von Erich family was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009.
Kevin Von Erich is the only surviving son of Fritz Von Erich, who passed away at 68. David, Kerry, Mike, and Chris all went on to become pro wrestlers and all tragically died before the age of 35. Ross and Marshall, Kevin’s two sons, currently wrestle for MLW.
