David Starr Says He’s Turned Down WWE Offers Due To Their Lack Of Health Care

Lack of health care is keeping David Starr out of WWE.

David Starr has made his feelings about WWE no secret over the last couple of months. During WrestleMania weekend, Starr cut a scathing promo on WWE at a wXw event, saying, “I’m disgusted because this is WrestleMania weekend. WrestleMania and Axxess are supposed to belong to that evil corporation, aren’t they? But you guys have allowed them to hijack what is supposed to be Independent wrestling. You guys have allowed the people who are trying to monopolize this business…INTO OUR WORLD!”

He then called out WALTER by saying, “Certain cowards that work for corporations that don’t provide health care to the wrestlers. That don’t allow them to unionize and keep empowerment from us wrestlers, the ones that put their lives on the line every single night. You guys applauding right now were the same people just chanting ‘NXT.'”

Following the promo, Starr took to social media to continue to poke at WWE, calling them out for also accepting “Saudi blood money.”

In an interview with WrestleTalk, Starr revealed that he has been contacted by WWE in the past but turned down their offer.

“I’ve been contacted by them before and I’ve turned it down a couple of times,” said Starr. “The thing that doesn’t hit home with the European audience is the health care thing. Because [you’re] very fortunate to just go to the hospital. That’s one of the reasons I moved to the UK. Being a professional wrestler, it’s hard to afford health care, the things you need.”

Lack of health care in WWE has become a bigger talking point ever since John Oliver took the company to task in a segment on his show Last Week Tonight. You can view that segment by clicking here.

Starr made headlines over the weekend for his in-ring ability as he won the PROGRESS Super Strong Style 16 tournament. You can view Fightful’s report from the final night of the event by clicking here.
