David Starr Leaves wXw, WWE Reportedly Pressured wXw To Cut Ties

David Starr has officially said goodbye to Westside Xtreme Wrestling.

Starr took on wXw Unified World Wrestling Champion Bobby Gunns on night two of wXw 16 Carat Gold 2020 in a title vs. career match. Gunns was victorious in the bout, ending Starr’s time in the promotion.

Starr actually “quit” wXw in April 2019, calling out WWE and WALTER in the process. Starr said in an in-ring promo at the time, “I’m disgusted because this is WrestleMania weekend. WrestleMania and Axxess are supposed to belong to that evil corporation, aren’t they? But you guys have allowed them to hijack what is supposed to be Independent wrestling. You guys have allowed the people who are trying to monopolize this business…INTO OUR WORLD! I am the Independent. There is a reason certain cowards don’t show up to shows like this. Certain cowards who tapped out to me at 16 Carat Gold. Certain cowards who refuse to wrestle me again. Certain cowards that work for corporations that don’t provide health care to the wrestlers. That don’t allow them to unionize and keep empowerment from us wrestlers, the ones that put their lives on the line every single night. You guys applauding right now were the same people just chanting ‘NXT.’ You’re just as thick as WALTER is.”

wXw has a working relationship with WWE and Starr has been very outspoken about how WWE does business. Starr won’t work for PROGRESS or EVOLVE due to their relationships with WWE as well. Starr previously stomped on the NXT UK Title in 2019.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, WWE reportedly made it to so Starr and wXw could not work together anymore. Meltzer stated that it was “pressure from WWE” and they “did not want David Starr in any company that they can control David Star not being in.”

Starr stated he won’t go into further details regarding wXw, but called it a “mutual decision was one that neither of us wanted to make.”

Starr still wrestles for OTT, which has a partnership with WWE.
