David Shoemaker: When Allegations Against Vince McMahon Came Out, Nobody Wanted WWE Co-Production On ‘Mr. McMahon’
David Shoemaker talks ‘Mr. McMahon’.
Netflix’s ‘Mr. McMahon’ series has been criticized by some fans for being too sanitized and for not diving deeper into McMahon’s controversies. Even with that, David Shoemaker has stated that WWE didn’t have say in the final cut of the series.
On the latest edition of The Ringer Wrestling Show, David Shoemaker said that nobody wanted WWE to be involved with the project anymore once allegations against Vince McMahon began to surface.
“WWE was a producer on the doc at the beginning. With that, we wouldn’t have gotten Vince to sit down. We wouldn’t have gotten the archival footage. There is just so much they are putting on the table. I don’t know the ins and outs. All I know is when the allegations started coming out about Vince; it became untenable because nobody wanted the WWE co-production; I’m sure WWE didn’t want to be involved in it either. At that point, somehow, WWE was no longer involved. When we interviewed Bruce (Prichard) and we said, ‘You’ve seen some cuts.’ They had access to rough footage. At some point, they didn’t have it anymore. I think that worked out for the best for the whole documentary.”
During the show, Shoemaker also talked about wanting names like Jim Ross, Rita Chatteron, and Janel Grant for the project. Learn more by clicking here.
All six episodes of ‘Mr. McMahon’ are now streaming on Netflix.
