Dave Crist Of oVe Talks About Entering The Business, Almost Getting Into WWE

It's always about timing.

oVe, consisting of brothers Dave and Jake Crist are gaining momentum, being signed to Impact Wrestling and have established an association with Sami Callihan. But their career path may have significantly changed if they were just a little bit bigger.

Dave Christ, one half of the team, was interviewed on the Pancakes and Powerslams podcast. He explained how he and his brother got into pro wrestling. They started out by wrestling in backyards, but did try and be professional about it:

One afternoon, my brother (Jake) and I decided that we were going to start backyard wrestling, which (was) a completely bad idea, but whatever," said Crist. "So, I was in welding class, I welded a ring together. We put a ring in the barn, [the barn] that we ended up training in.  News Center 7 came out and did a story about us, about backyard wrestling, and how bad and dangerous backyard wrestling was. But when they saw us, we actually had an entranceway, we used lights, we used a lot of things that tried to make us look like professionals.

Eventually, through one of their connections, they started to wrestle on the independent scene. They got the attention of Tommy Dreamer, who was working with WWE in the talent relations department at the time. He liked them from the get go, Crist said, but unfortunately their size played a factor in not being signed. Regardless, it did open another door for them:

(Dreamer) said that he was really impressed by us, but we were way too small to even be considered to be a developmental talent," Crist explained. "(Dreamer) goes, 'But, I can probably put in a word in for you with Gabe Sapolsky at Ring of Honor. Let me give him a call, and give me your number and I'll let you know how that goes.' And then, he got a hold of us a few weeks later, and he was like,' Yeah, Gabe said you guys would be good for Dayton. So, if you guys want to do Ring of Honor in Dayton, you're more than welcome to go give it a shot.

oVe have established themselves within Impact Wrestling, winning the tag team titles back in August of last year. They've spent the last several months feuding with LAX over the titles.
