Dave Bautista’s ‘My Spy’ Gets Late Summer Release Date

The trailer dropped over a month ago, and now STX Entertainment has finally settled on a home for the upcoming Dave Bautista action comedy, My Spy.

According to Deadline, the film will be released on August 23rd, serving as counter-programming to Gerard Butler’s trilogy-closing Angel Has Fallen and Fox Searchlight’s horror flick, Ready or Not. The road to box office success has been paved rather nicely for My Spy as there are no other PG-13 comedies in the weeks before or after its debut.

My Spy “will tell the story of a hardened CIA operative (Bautista) who finds himself at the mercy of a precocious 9-year-old girl, having been sent undercover to surveil her family.” The film will also see seasoned director Peter Segal (Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult, 50 First Dates) jump back into the super-spy genre over a decade after helming 2008’s Get Smart.

Bautista appeared at WrestleMania 35 this past April where he squared off against Triple H. He would announce his retirement from professional wrestling shortly after the event. Since then, he has appeared in Avengers: Endgame and made a surprise cameo on last weeks episode of What We Do in the Shadows as Garrett the Vampire.

The former six-time World Heavyweight Champion can next be seen co-starring opposite Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick) and fellow Guardians of the Galaxy castmate Karen Gillan in the Uber action-adventure Stuber on July 12th.
