Darby Allin reflects on his match with MJF at AEW Full Gear 2021.
Allin and MJF have been with AEW since its first year, and they have are two of the company’s brightest stars. They are two of the company’s Four Pillars alongside Sammy Guevara and “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry, as they have been viewed as AEW’s future. By the time AEW Full Gear 2021 came around, Allin and MJF were established homegrown players in AEW, and they were engaged in a heated rivalry.
MJF and Allin opened the show and delivered a special match that went down as one of the most memorable bouts in AEW history, as it showcased two homegrown stars. MJF emerged victorious, but the match helped futher cement Allin’s status.
In an interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Allin reflected on his match with MJF at AEW Full Gear 2021 and emphasized that it was very important to him because it gave him and MJF a chance to show the world what they could do. He called it one of his most important matches in AEW and noted that he had to give MJF credit.
“That match was very, very, very important to me because it was a chance to show people what [me and MJF] could do. We kicked the show off and I firmly believe no one followed us that whole entire night. So it was cool to show the people what the homegrown talent was willing or capable of doing. So that was probably one of my most important matches in AEW history. There’s been a handful of matches, but I really felt like that match was special. I hate to give the guy credit, but you gotta give credit when it’s due, man,” Allin said.
At AEW Double or Nothing, the Four Pillars will collide, as MJF will defend the AEW World Championship against Allin, Guevara, and Perry.
