Daniel Bryan Wasn’t Sure What The Plan For WrestleMania 34 Was Had He Not Been Cleared
Daniel Bryan still doesn’t know what he was going to do at WrestleMania 34 if he didn’t get cleared.
Speaking to Sam Roberts on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast, Bryan was asked if he knew what the original plan was for him at WrestleMania 34 had doctor’s not cleared him to wrestle. Roberts mentioned that the story didn’t make much sense if Bryan wasn’t going to wrestle.
“If you were to go back to watch it from week to week it doesn’t make a lot of sense with me being cleared either,” said Bryan.
“They were told there’s not much chance of me being cleared,” he contined. “I think they had a game plan but maybe two weeks before, I got in cleared. I got cleared by even more people and it was becoming harder and harder to be like, ‘Hey we can’t clear this guy when all the best people have cleared him.’ So then it becomes this momentum of stuff. I know that they had a plan. I think the main plan was for me not to be cleared. What that plan was, I don’t exactly know.”
Leading up to WrestleMania in New Orleans, Bryan, entrenched in his role as SmackDown general manager, began having issues with commissioner Shane McMahon. The two were at odds over how to punished SmackDown superstars Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. On the night Bryan announced he was cleared for competition, Owens and Zayn attacked.
If he wasn’t cleared by WWE doctors, Bryan had his own plan as to how the story should play out.
“I was hoping that, if I wasn’t going to be cleared, it would involve me being involved where of Shane loses, then I lose the GM spot because I didn’t want to do it anymore. That’s what I was pitching for, realistically.”
