Daniel Bryan Shoots On John Cena Over SmackDown Promo

On the very first episode of Talking Smack, SmackDown general manager Daniel Bryan had some choice words for John Cena after his promo with AJ Styles.

Bryan said that he was “borderline offended” by Cena saying that AJ Styles would go somewhere else to wrestle if his WWE run didn’t pan out, while he would only wrestle in WWE. Cena also took a shot at the fact that Styles left both TNA and NJPW, saying he’s done it before.

“I was actually taken aback and borderline offended of what John Cena said,” Bryan said. “It offends because, hey, I’ve been fired from WWE twice and sometimes, when you get fired, you have to wrestle somewhere else. John is saying that, essentially, if he were to get fired, he wouldn’t wrestle somewhere else because he only wrestles in WWE.”

The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Bryan continued by saying that he’s “cut from the same cloth” as Styles, as they had to fight for the opportunity to get to WWE.

“[Styles] had to fight for a long time to get the opportunity to be here,” Bryan said. “If he gets fired, he has a family to provide for. Are you saying don’t go work somewhere else, go work at a garage or something?”

Bryan did say he understand where Cena is coming from, but at the same time, Styles and Bryan are not in the same position Cena is in, like The Rock. Bryan said that while he admires Cena for his passion of the WWE, that didn’t meant that he had talk down Styles having to wrestle elsewhere should he ever get fired.

“To me, it’s incredible,” Bryan said. “[Cena’s] love and passion for this. But that doesn’t mean that you should knock things about AJ like, ‘oh if you lose this, you’ll go somewhere else.’ Well, yeah. Of course he will.”

Bryan had to retire from wrestling earlier this year due to medical concerns and has worked with WWE in several non-wrestling roles, including broadcasting duties for The Cruiserweight Classic with SmackDown play-by-play announcer Mauro Ranallo.
