‘Cornish Pro Wrestling’ Co-Owner Says The Promotion Is Open To Anyone Looking To Become A Pro Wrestler
The co-owner of ‘CPW’ speaks on a number of topics.
The England-based wrestling promotion ‘Cornish Pro Wrestling’ kick-started in 2015 and has been running shows on a consistent basis since its launch. The owners of the promotion are a husband and wife tandem, Alice & Terry Speller. ‘CPW’ has an upcoming show on July 1st and to promote the event Terry Speller spoke with the U.K. news publication ‘Cornwall Live’. During the discussion Speller went over the talent that he and his wife have been able to bring into their promotion to compete and one of the names that were listed is the current WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne.
“So far we have been lucky enough to have WWE U.K. champion Pete Dunne, El Ligero, Marty Scrull, Doug Williams, Jimmy Havoc, Mark Haskins and Joseph Conners to name a few on our shows with many more names to come including adding a few women’s matches in future.” He continued, “At present we have around 8 main guys who are our go to guys, but we like to do things differently from other promotions and look outside of the southwest. But we’re now running a training camp to find and coach the next generation of homegrown wrestlers.”
Terry Speller stated that all it takes to be a part of ‘CPW’ is to have good cardio and being open to listening and learning.
“You can be any gender, any age and be tall, short, skinny or large – it does not matter, as long as your cardio is okay and you listen and learn. Anyone can be a wrestler and have something unique to offer. It takes hard work and passion and we teach that you the basics that are needed,” said Terry. “But you need to have a never give up attitude, you will be pushed and if you stumble that is fine – no one will hold it against you. If you get back up and carry on then know you have what it takes.”
Terry discussed the beginnings of the promotion and shared that the first show was simply supposed to be a one-off but due to the fan response that the performers received, he and Alice decided to turn ‘CPW’ into a family business and a full-time wrestling promotion.
“So when we moved back to Cornwall we saw there was nothing like it here apart from the odd promotion up country once a year and decided we needed to give Cornwall its own wrestling identity and put a show together. It was just going to be a one off to see if we could and we sold out and turned people away. From then we knew there was a fan base here and built ourselves up. Now Alice and I run it together and are turning it into a family business.” He said. “We are World Of Sport, WWE, American-style pro wrestling rather than Cornish wrestling – we have storylines and drama, we see ourselves more as a soap opera that features wrestling.”
Speaking of the WWE United Kingdom Champion, Pete Dunne recently defended his title in the finals of the WWE U.K. Championship tournament at ‘Royal Albert Hall’.
