“The American Nightmare” returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38, where he defeated Seth Rollins in a hard-fought match. Rhodes subsequently made it clear that he came back to WWE because he wants to win the world title. He then defeated Rollins at both WWE WrestleMania Backlash at WWE Hell in a Cell. However, ahead of his Hell in a Cell match against Rollins, Rhodes suffered a torn pectoral muscle. He still competed as scheduled, and the stunning sight of his bruised chest shocked the WWE Universe. He won the match, and after Rollins attacked him on the following episode of WWE Raw, Rhodes had surgery, and he has been sidelined ever since.

On December 26, Rhodes appeared on the “The Absolute Best of 2022” edition of WWE Raw, and he discussed his return. He called Rollins one of the top three wrestlers in the world and shared his thoughts on a potential rematch with Rollins. Rhodes noted that he wasn’t sure if it was on his radar.

“Make no mistake about it. Seth and I are not chummy, we’re not best friends. But Seth Rollins is one of the top three wrestlers in the entire world. Three matches, not just one but three matches was an honor. Again, we’re not best friends. We don’t exchange Christmas cards, but there’s a bond by battle there with Seth and myself. I know he’s probably clamoring for a fourth match, [but] I don’t know if that’s on my radar,” Rhodes said.

Rhodes also vaguely discussed his goals for the new year and made it clear that he wants to pick up right where he left off. He implied that he still has his sights set on the world title.

It’s currently unclear when Rhodes will return to the ring. Fightful will continue to monitor the situation and provide more information as it becomes available.
