Cody Rhodes Pays Tribute To Terry Funk On 8/25 WWE SmackDown

The wrestling world sadly lost Terry Funk on August 23. Funk was a wrestling legend and a hardcore icon whose career spanned decades and involved stops in the top territories, the major American promotions and top promotions in Japan.

One of Funk’s greatest rivals was Dusty Rhodes with Funk famously wearing a “Dusty Sucks Eggs” and the two clashing in a variety of matches and competing for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship throughout the 70s and 80s.

On the August 25 episode of WWE SmackDown, Cody Rhodes paid tribute to Funk.

Cody started his promo by telling the story of when he was 11 and hearing Terry Funk call his dad “an egg sucking dog” at the airport.

Cody said that WWE superstars have been called many things, but only a few have been called “Cowboys” and that Funk and Bray Wyatt were “Cowboys in the best way.” Cody said that Funk was part of wrestling for 50 years and that he gave “the rub” to an entire company, referencing Funk’s time in ECW.

After a video package celebrating the career of Funk, Cody continued his promo by introducing a Terry Funk Hardcore Match between the Brawling Brutes (Butch & Ridge Holland) vs. the Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins).
