Cody Rhodes formed an alliance with Jey Uso following the latter’s move to WWE Raw, which Rhodes helped orchestrate. The duo won the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship at WWE Fastlane, but they dropped the titles back to Judgment Day (Finn Balor and Damian Priest) just over a week later.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Rhodes briefly commented on his pairing with Jey Uso.
“Jey has been a superb teammate. I need to ask him what inning we are in,” Rhodes said.
In recent weeks, Rhodes has been feuding with Damian Priest, and he beat the powerhouse in a singles match at WWE Crown Jewel. “The American Nightmare” praised the Judgment Day member’s in-ring skills and called him a rare breed.
“With big men, it’s always their ability–or lack of–to ‘do both.’ He has the height and reach and power, but he is also deadly quick. A rare breed. Don’t like him, but certainly respect him and his continued gains,” Rhodes said.
Cody also noted that he enjoyed watching the Georgia Bulldogs score a narrow win against Missouri on Saturday and highlighted the importance of closing as a wrestler.
On the Setember 25 episode of WWE Raw, Rhodes stated that they weren’t in the third inning anymore. He was responding to Paul Heyman, who said Roman Reigns and The Bloodline were only in the bottom of the third inning at the WWE SummerSlam post-show press conference.
Rhodes previously called his memorable WWE Fastlane press conference with Jey Uso a top ten career moment. Check out his comments here.
