Cody Rhodes: It Would Take A Lot For Me To Be At ROH-NJPW Supercard, That Weekend Is For WWE

Don’t expect to see Cody Rhodes on the ROH-NJPW Supercard in April.

Cody continues to remain mum on what his next move in the world of professional wrestling will be as he enters free agency in 2019. Cody is set to challenge Jay Lethal for the ROH World Title tonight at Final Battle. He has said that, should he win, he will take the title into free agency with him. Cody’s ROH contract reportedly expired in October, but he has worked with the company on a verbal agreement.

“I have a massive amount of respect for Joe Koff and [GM] Greg Gilleland,” Cody told Sports Illustrated. “My exclusivity with Ring of Honor ended a while back and they’ve maintained everything on a handshake deal. I think Greg is a revolutionary in how he allows talent to play with without overproducing.”

With Cody and other members of the Elite heading into free agency, there is a chance that they won’t appear at the ROH-NJPW Supercard event on April 6. Cody previously stated that he is “not on that show” and further confirmed that he won’t be part of the festivities.

“It would take a lot for me to be part of the Garden show,” said Cody. “After two ‘supercards’ and breaking my back essentially against Kenny last year, it still can’t change the fact that people are in town for WWE. ROH and NJPW sold that building out and that is massive and special and I love that they did it, but had they did it on another weekend, I’d be more likely to be featured on it,. After 10 years with WWE doing ’Mania weekend and two more with ROH, I am leaving that weekend for the boys and girls of the WWE.”

Reports tie Cody into being involved with All Elite Wrestling, a potential wrestling company backed by Jacksonville Jaguars owner Tony Khan. Cody said, “Watch ‘Being The Elite,'” if you want to know the next move for him and the rest of the Elite. The Young Bucks have previously stated that they will announce their future plans on their hit YouTube series.
