Cody Rhodes: The ‘Death Of Superman’ Inspiration Was Lost On Everyone When I Dyed My Hair Black
When Cody Rhodes returned to AEW Dynamite following his loss to Mr. Brodie Lee, he resurfaced with jet black hair. Now, Cody says that nobody understood the meaning behind the aesthetic change.
Cody Rhodes has often changed his look to fit many different iterations of his character. At one point during his time in WWE, his biggest character trait was “I have a mustache.” After leaving WWE in 2016, Cody Rhodes found himself in Bullet Club and when there started to be a rift between himself and Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes would dye his hair bleach-blonde as he became more egomaniacal in his attempts to become the leader of Bullet Club.
Shortly before All In, he was asked to dye his hair back to a darker color for an acting role but he would immediately dye his hair blonde once again before All In and his blonde hair remained a signature part of his “American Nightmare” package ever since.
Cody Rhodes explained via a recent interview with Lexy Nair, which you can see embedded above, that the purpose of him dying his hair upon returning to Dynamite was lost on many and it was an homage to the Death of Superman comic series where “The Man of Steel” resurfaced with a new look.
“Blondes have more fun. Nobody got it when I dyed my hair black. It was a play on Death of Superman. He had the mullet, he had a change, a different outfit. Nobody got it.”
Cody also played on this inspiration on social media as he tried to form his American Nightmare logo in the style of the death of Superman logo.
