Cody Rhodes: 100 Percent AEW Is Coming To The UK In 2020

With 2020 fast approaching, Cody Rhodes doubles down on the idea of AEW making a trip to the UK next year.

In its inaugural year, AEW has traveled all over the United States, but hasn’t done much as far as holding events outside of the country. An AEW event in the United Kingdom has been an idea that’s been up in the air for some time and Cody says AEW will be there next year in some capacity. Whether or not that would be for an episode of Dynamite, a pay-per-view or a special streaming event remains to be seen.

“I would say 100 percent that AEW is coming to the UK in 2020. I can’t be sure if we’re coming for Dynamite, a pay-per-view or a rare live event tour, but everyone is on-board with us coming in 2020 and if I’m incorrect with that statement, I will give you $500. No, I don’t know [laughs],” Cody told Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT.

There had been some discussions about naming a future pay-per-view, possibly an event in the UK “Royal Flush.” AEW’s upper management initially liked the name, but AEW President Tony Khan eventually nixed the name once he realized the name wasn’t so great after saying it multiple times. Regardless, Cody is really excited about the UK wrestling scene and the prospects of AEW heading there next year.

“So, Royal Flush was a real thing and we all actually thought it was a really good name until we said it multiple times and we realised it was a terrible name. Tony [Khan] was one of the first to spot that. But, with the UK and our representation with ITV and FITE, and the fact that the fanbase is really thriving and hungry. I mean, the UK independent scene got hot before the American independent scene and so many of us imports were going over there to do shows like I did with What Culture Pro Wrestling,” Cody said.

AEW’s 2020 schedule isn’t fully set, but it does have Dynamite shows scheduled all through February and you can see that schedule at this link.
