Cody Discusses His Future As He Is Set To Become A Free Agent On January 1st Of 2019
Cody provides some insight.
The current NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Cody has had a busy 2018. His year started off by planning, announcing and eventually selling out and presenting he and The Young Bucks’ ‘All In’ show. Cody has challenged for the ROH World Championship, the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and won the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title this year alone but the buck does that not stop there as next weekend he will challenge Juice Robinson for the IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Championship at NJPW’s ‘Fighting Spirit Unleashed’ event in Long Beach, CA.
With 2018 coming to close, Cody has a pending decision awaiting him as he is set to become a free agent on January 1st of 2019. Cody has been exclusively signed to Ring Of Honor and with all the success that he’s had this year, he does not know what he will do come January 1st and he spoke about those possibilities during the latest episode of ’10 Pounds Of Gold’.
“January 1st is a very tricky day.” Cody said. “I guess its taboo to talk about it but I’m okay to talk about it – I become a free agent and looking at how this year went; with my exclusivity with Ring Of Honor, how much fun I had, how much challenge [I was] presented [with]. Looking at what I did with New Japan Pro Wrestling, looking at what happened with All In, there was no way to map that out last year, no way. So, I feel like I’m so found but I’m also so lost at the same time. This is the thing [NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship] that tethers me back to reality. I know that this moment that I got to share with 11-plus thousand people to become the NWA Worlds Champion – everything was right about wrestling in that moment so no matter where I go – if I stay with Ring Of Honor, whether I go to WWE or whether I commit to New Japan Pro Wrestling full-time or whether I just become the NWA Worlds Champion traveling the globe carrying the ten pounds of gold, taking Jack Brisco photos everywhere, I can’t map it out. Its tough, and I think the only thing I know how to do in this case is what I did last year is what I’m going to do this year and that’s go with my gut.”
As mentioned, Cody will be challenging Juice Robinson for the IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Championship at ‘Fighting Spirit Unleashed’ and to take a look at the updated match card for the event, head over to Fightful’s “events” section.
