CM Punk Says Living Colour Contacted Him About WWE Using ‘Cult Of Personality,’ Wouldn’t Do It Unless It Was For Punk

Since his days in ROH, CM Punk has used “Cult of Personality” by Living Colour as his theme.

Punk brought the theme with him to WWE in 2011, a rare time WWE has used a licensed song as a theme for a wrestler.

When Punk returned to WWE at WWE Survivor Series 2023, “Cult Of Personality” hit the speakers.

“I’m tight with the band. They’re calling me going, ‘Hey, they’re trying to license the song again. If this isn’t for you, it’s a hard no.’ I didn’t want to say anything. I kind of told them it was for me without saying. ‘Maybe you should…’  Corey (Glover) is like, ‘Is it you or not you?’ ‘Corey just….’” Punk recalled while speaking to O’Shea Jackson Jr. and TJ Jefferson on No-Contest Wrestling

Asked if Living Colour re-released the song, Punk said, “Yes. That’s because we pay the band. We’re not paying the record label. They re-recorded it and remastered it. I feel much better going, ‘Here you go.’”

Elsewhere during the interview, Punk provided more details on his WWE return. You can find his full comments by clicking here.

Punk will face Drew McIntyre inside Hell in a Cell at WWE Bad Blood. Fans can check out the current lineup for the show by clicking here.
