CM Punk Believes WWE Is Overproduced, Knew He Was Screwed At Survivor Series 2006
CM Punk weighs in on a variety of subjects.
CM Punk joined Colin Cowherd on Wednesday’s episode of The Herd as a follow-up to his official WWE Backstage debut on Tuesday. Cowherd immediately referred to Punk as being back with WWE, to which Punk quickly corrected him, pointing out that he’s with Fox but is “WWE adjacent.”
When asked if he’s worried about getting in trouble with what he says on WWE Backstage, Punk replied, “I’m not concerned about it. That’s honestly the appeal of the job. We’re going to pay you to be an analyst. I’m not here to be a spoiler or pour gasoline on everything. Deep down, I love pro wrestling. I think it can be better. I always voiced my opinion when I worked there and now I don’t work there and I can’t get in trouble for it.”
Punk and Cowherd both agreed the women are the best thing in WWE at the moment. And when asked what’s wrong in WWE, Punk answered, “Everything is overproduced. It’s supposed to be dirty and grimey. Let them wrestle. Let them be themselves and develop their own character. Let people be less scripted. If everybody is speaking from one voice, it’s just that, it’s one voice.”
Cowherd noted that the best wrestlers are on the ones that make fans uncomfortable, naming Hulk Hogan as one of those wrestlers. To which Punk replied, “Hogan makes people uncomfortable for a lot of reasons”
Punk was also asked about the moment he knew he made it in WWE. He referenced Survivor Series 2006 when he teamed with Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and The Hardy Boyz as the moment he knew he made it. And when he knew he was screwed as the crowd was chanting for him over the more established wrestlers.
“In that moment, I remember looking right at Triple H and I was like, ‘I’m screwed. They’re not gonna like this.'”
