CM Punk Believes Shane’s Moniker Is A Shot At Him; Thinks WWE Was Behind The Curve With Kofi
CM Punk discusses WrestleMania 35.
Even though it’s been over five years since CM Punk left WWE, he’s still asked questions about the company and his future in wrestling. And while he says he’s done with the sport, it hasn’t stopped fans from chanting his name as a way of voicing their displeasure over what they’re seeing. In November, Shane McMahon began calling himself “The Best In The World” following his WWE World Cup victory at Crown Jewel. The moniker immediately elicited memories of Punk, who went by that same nickname when he was on television.
Appearing on Sauce & Shram, Punk was in-studio to help review WrestleMania 35, giving his thoughts on multiple topics, including Shane’s nickname.
“I think he’s been calling himself ‘the best in the world.’ And this is the funny thing about the company, is I could say, ‘Yea that’s a little shot at me,’ And, it probably is, but they’d deny it until the cows come home,” said Punk.
On Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown, a “CM Punk” chant broke out during Shane’s promo, leading Shane to simply say, “okay” before moving on.
Punk also shared his thoughts on Kofi Kingston’s title win, saying, “It should’ve happened ten years ago. That’s what I’ll lead with. And it’s one of those things where yes, I’m stoked that it happened now, but again, be ahead of the curve instead of way behind it.”
Punk and Kofi held the World Tag Team Titles together in 2008.
Not only were “CM Punk” chants audible on SmackDown, but they filled the arena at Raw After Mania when the crowd turned on the main event.
