CM Punk Believes Roman Reigns Is Finally Where WWE Pushed Him To Be
CM Punk acknowledges how great Roman Reigns is doing right now.
Speaking with the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, the former WWE Champion was asked about creativity in wrestling and where he learnt the craft of storytelling. He would go on to talk about how the best stuff, sometimes, presents itself when you’re not trying to force it. Punk would use Roman Reigns as an example, saying that he is the best guy WWE has right now, but as always, are doing something they should have done years ago. He said the following:
“I think a lot of the times the best stuff, you also just kind of got to go with the flow with it. I’ll use Roman Reigns as an example. Because if we’re talking about good stuff, if the WWE does anything good, this is the one thing they’re doing right; is Roman Reigns. His character work, his in-ring stuff, it’s all great. But I feel like classic WWE, they’re always 5 years, 10 years late. This is something that they should have done originally because they tried so hard to get this guy over as a babyface and they gave him x-amount of Mania main events, like, ‘this is the guy, this is the guy, this is the guy.’ He never really had his moments until now. Maybe he needed that adversity and that backlash to finally be this guy. This is the one thing they’re doing right because what can you say bad about what Roman Reigns is doing right now? He’s far and away the best guy they have, and when you talk about storylines, in-ring work, and all that stuff, right now, he’s the total package. So he’s exactly — for the first time in his career, I’m not being mean to Roman Reigns, I just feel he’s finally where they pushed him to be. It just took a minute.”
Roman Reigns has main evented WrestleMania 31, 32, 33, 34, and 37 (Night Two). He is the current Universal Champion and can be seen every Friday Night on WWE SmackDown.
Since leaving WWE in 2014, Punk has found a home in Hollywood. It was recently revealed that he landed a role in Stephen Amell’s upcoming wrestling drama, Heels. He will be playing a character known as Ricky Rabies who has an accompanying valet, Vicky Rabies. Click here to see a photo of him in costume.
As far as an actual return to wrestling, Punk doesn’t want to return and just be another guy doing not-good television in WWE.
