Christopher Daniels On The World Title That Has Eluded Him All These Years
Christopher Daniels faces Adam Cole for the Ring of Honor World Title in Las Vegas at tonight's ROH 15th Anniversary pay-per-view event, and he's a man on a mission.
“The one thing that has eluded me over the course of my whole career is an actual world singles championship,” Daniels said in a new interview with International Business Times.
“Every place that I’ve been, whether it’s Ring of Honor or TNA, the end goal has always been to become world champion. And a lot of times it wasn’t in the cards. But the last couple of months it’s been at the forefront of my mind probably more than in the last six or seven years. So it’s definitely something that I think about, and I feel like if I can win that championship on the 10th, it would be sort of a great culmination of a long period of struggle and hardship and sacrifice."
Daniels understands that this might be the best shot he's ever had to become a world champion.
“The goal of everybody that gets into this is the possibility of being world champion, and some guys never get close enough even to realistically consider that. I’ve had that opportunity a bunch in the past and it just hasn’t gone my way. But now at this point, it’s closer than it’s ever been or probably gonna be again."
Daniels, who turns 46 in two weeks, knows he's closer to the end than the middle of his career, but he's not thinking about setting a retirement date just yet.
“I do know that it’s closer to the end now than before, but I haven’t set a date. I haven’t said ‘this many years,’ or ‘this many matches,’ or ‘this particular date.’ I literally am just going on how I feel. I’m gonna continue to do this as long as I’m healthy and can continue to wrestle at that level too. And as long as I’m still having fun, and that’s been the case so far.”
ROH 15 is tonight at 9 est on PPV, and Fightful will have full coverage, a live viewing party and Sean Ross Sapp will host a podcast on Sunday with his reaction to the event.
