Chris Jericho Wanted To Work With Hangman Page In Order To Make Him A Bigger Star

Chris Jericho sees big potential in Hangman Page.

At AEW All Out on Aug. 31, Chris Jericho and Hangman Page will compete for the vacant AEW World Title in the main event. Page won the Casino Battle Royale at AEW Double or Nothing to earn his spot in the bout while Jericho defeated Kenny Omega.

Speaking to Busted Open Radio, Jericho revealed how he and AEW will turn Page into a bigger star at All Out.

“When we started talking about the direction of the company, I said, ‘I want to work with Hangman.’ You can see the potential,” said Jericho. “He looks like a million bucks, he wrestles great, his promos are getting better. How do you make him a star? Put him in the ring with Chris Jericho. How do you make him a bigger star? Put him in the ring with Jericho in a match for the first AEW Championship. You could have done me vs. Kenny [Omega], Cody, [Jon] Moxley. Those guys are already main eventers. Let’s build somebody instantly. He will be more of a star after All Out then in his entire career. In one night.”

Jericho continued, comparing how his bout with Page will boost Page’s profile in one night the same way Jon Moxley‘s appearance at Double or Nothing turned him into a bigger star.

“It’s the same way we reinvigorated Moxley’s career in one night. Nobody was talking about Dean Ambrose. Nobody even cared about Dean Ambrose. People were thinking Dean Ambrose was over the hill as far as working in the business. He comes out with us; in five minutes becomes the hottest guy in the wrestling business. Then he gets the confidence to really take it to the next level.’

Finally, Jericho circled back to Hangman and got one last shot in at WWE.

“This is Hangman Page’s coronation. This is his coming out party,” Jericho stated. “I’m really excited about it. I’ve seen enough of him that I know, this is the type of guy that we want on our roster, and we’re gonna build him into a bigger star in one night than WWE has built any star they’ve had in six months.”
