Chris Jericho: Tony Schiavone Brings A Sense Of Legitimacy To AEW Dynamite

Chris Jericho praises Tony Schiavone.

Nearly 20 years after WCW Nitro went off the air on TNT, AEW Dynamite premiered. The flagship program of All Elite Wrestling has received rave reviews from wrestling fans and has reminded those who watched Nitro of WCW’s flagship. Leading the way is the voice of Tony Schiavone, who was the main voice of Nitro during its nearly six-year run.

“[Tony] is like [Jim Ross], except Jim’s been calling wrestling for the last while. Not regularly, but he has,” Chris Jericho told Still Real To Us. “We haven’t heard Tony call wrestling in almost 20 years, or however long its been. That was a really cool moment; not from a nostalgia standpoint, but from the sense of ‘This guy is f*cking great. He needs to be doing this all of the time.’”

Jericho, the current AEW Champion, worked alongside Schiavone during their years together in WCW.

When asked what it was like to hear Schiavone’s voice again, Jericho said, “It might be more surreal for Cody (Rhodes), maybe. For me, I don’t think like that. If someone said, ‘Oh my God, Jericho is going home.’ Going home to where, Washington DC? ‘No, TNT!’ When was TNT ever my home? I don’t even remember that WCW was on TNT. Having Tony involved is amazing because he’s got such a great voice. You remember it. You’re like, ‘F*ck, we’ve missed this guy in a wrestling organization.’ He brings a sense of legitimacy.”

Along with calling AEW Dynamite alongside Jim Ross and Excalibur, Schiavone does studio work for AEW. Before returning to AEW, Schiavone also did commentary work for MLW.
