Chris Jericho Thinks Marquee Names Should Have The Most Time To Speak At WWE’s Hall Of Fame Ceremony

Chris Jericho gives his take on how to shorten WWE’s Hall Of Fame ceremony.

Last night, the Barclays Center was home to NXT TakeOver: New York and tonight the building will be filled with suits, ties and dresses as the 2019 WWE Hall Of Fame ceremony commences. Harlem Heat, D-Generation X, Torrie Wilson, Sue Aitchison, The Honky Tonk Man and The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart) are being honored tonight. WWE Hall Of Fame ceremonies are a topic of conversation during WrestleMania weekend because of the length of the show.

Torrie Wilson, who is being inducted shared that she has heard that there will be some format changes to this year’s ceremony. Former multi-time WWE World Champion Chris Jericho talked about the Hall Of Fame ceremony when he joined Sam Roberts and Jim Norton’s radio show. Jericho shared that he has sat through four ceremonies and feels that the time can be cut down by having the marquee presenters take on the lengthy speeches if they so choose while those who are not on the same level keep their speeches short.

“It’s not like he’s Flair, he’s Hillbilly Jim.” Jericho said when talking about Hillbilly Jim’s induction speech. “He was in the cartoon and he wrestled twice and you never saw him again.” Jericho continued, “Here’s the problem though, when you have something like the Hall Of Fame, it’s so subjective. Once again, you can’t have one guy go 45 and I think Stone Cold Steve Austin went like five minutes or ten minutes. Like if someone’s gonna talk for 45 minutes, it should be Steve. They should weight it on, ‘Listen, we love you but you were the opening match, the opening guy. You get ten minutes. You’re lucky to be in it’ and as you get to the top, the main event guy, you go as long as you want, within reason. I think that’s the way to do it.”

Soon-to-be WWE Hall Of Famer Torrie Wilson plans on keeping her speech under ten minutes and she stated that while guest appearing on Jim Ross’ podcast.
