Chris Jericho: Swerve Strickland Will Eventually Be AEW Champion, He’s A Crossover Star That AEW Needs
Chris Jericho believes Swerve Strickland is the crossover star that AEW needs.
Chris Jericho believes Swerve Strickland will be AEW World Champion.
At present in AEW, Strickland is pursuing AEW World Champion Samoa Joe, recently coming up short in a triple threat match that also involved Hangman Adam Page at AEW Revolution. Despite the loss, Swerve has remained steadfast that he will become AEW World Champion, and has been lobbying for a one on one match with Joe in recent weeks.
While speaking to Gabby AF in a recent interview, Chris Jericho spoke on Strickland, stating his belief that Strickland will become AEW World Champion and he is the crossover star AEW needs.
“I’m a huge fan of Swerve. I think, eventually he’ll be our World Champion. It’s just a matter of time at this point. He has the cool factor. He’s new, he’s fresh, he can talk, he looks great. He’s a guy that can be a crossover super-duper star, which is exactly what AEW needs to go to the next level, someone like Swerve or Will Ospreay that people don’t really know that have the look, the uniqueness, the charisma. I’m not just talking inside the ring, I’m talking outside the ring. That’s what wrestling is. You become a mainstream star and you build the company. Look at all the guys that have done multiple things and get outside the wrestling bubble and into the mainstream world. That just makes your company stronger, makes you a bigger star, and makes your company bigger.”
Strickland and Joe stared each other down on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite after Joe defeated Wardlow to retain his championship.
Fightful recently sat down with Strickland for an interview, in which Swerve discussed Big Pressure. You can read more about that here.
