Chris Jericho Stepped In To Get David Benoit’s 2014 In-Ring Debut Canceled

David Benoit was supposed to make his pro wrestling debut in 2014 for Hart Legacy Wrestling in Calgary, but the bout never happened thanks to Chris Jericho.

David, who is the son of Chris Benoit, was scheduled to team with Chavo Guerrero at the event, but Guerrero pulled out of the bout after learning David didn’t have the proper training. David had reportedly enrolled in wrestling school but never showed up for class. Chris Jericho reportedly called promoter Smith Hart and was “furious” that he would book David without the proper training.

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, David stated Jericho was “looking out for me, so I appreciated that.”

When asked if he was bummed out, David replied, “A little bit, but at the same time I was like ‘ehhh.’ I told them I wasn’t ready. He wanted me to just get in there and do it. So, Jericho stepped in and dealt with it.”

Jericho and David remain close and speak regularly according to David.

David has yet to make his in-ring debut and it is unclear how much training he has actually had. He has stated in the past that he would like to join AEW and has “messed around in the ring” with a couple of guys.

Elsewhere in the interview, David discussed the Kevin Sullivan conspiracy theories surrounding Chris’ double murder-suicide. You can read his comments by clicking here.
