Chris Jericho Recalls Taking Control Of The Planning Of 2016’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match

Chris Jericho had to take control of the match planning ahead of Money in the Bank 2016.

During a recent episode of his Talk Is Jericho podcast, the Inner Circle leader welcomed on fellow AEW star Jon Moxley, during which they discussed a number of topics, including their time together in WWE. One such subject was the 2016 Money in the Bank Ladder match that saw Moxley (then Dean Ambrose) emerge victoriously over Jericho, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Cesaro, and Alberto Del Rio.

According to Jericho, the spot suggestions were getting too dangerous, so he had to step up and take control of the situation. Here are his full remarks about what went down:

“Sami and Kevin were convinced that they needed to build an apparatus and take some kind of ridiculously stupid bump or else nobody would care. You were being typical Mox like, ‘whatever you guys want to do.’ Sami was talking, talking, talking. Cesaro is like, ‘Sami, can I say something?’ Sami goes, ‘No,’ and continues talking. Cesaro was (mad). I remember saying, ‘Stop, I’m the captain now. I’m taking over. Everything has to be approved by me. If you have a problem, go talk to Vince. It’s all about climbing the ladder, reaching for the title, that’s all that matters.’ We had the match, you [Moxley] won, it ended up being really good. Afterwards, Sami went, ‘Wow, you were right, you had some good ideas.’ Yes, of course I’m fucking right!”

Ambrose would cash in his Money in the Bank contract later that night, pinning Seth Rollins to win the WWE Championship for the first and only time of his WWE run.

Last week, AEW President Tony Khan shared that Moxley is entering an inpatient alcohol treatment program. You can learn more by clicking here.

Jericho is set to compete at Full Gear on Saturday, November 13 alongside the rest of the Inner Circle against Men of the Year and American Top Team. The full card for the event can be seen here.
