Chris Jericho: If You Ask Darby Allin Who Is Behind The Scenes To Make Him A Star, It’s Uncle Jericho

Since the early days of AEW Dynamite, Darby Allin has been pegged as a future star for the promotion. On the October 10, 2019 episode of Dynamite, Allin challenged Jericho in a Philadelphia Street Fight for the AEW World Title. And though Allin didn’t capture the title, the match allowed him to be seen on the same level as Jericho.

The week before their match, Allin rode down the ramp on a skateboard, leaping off to attack Jericho. According to Jericho, that idea was his.

“He didn’t want to ride the skateboard down,” Jericho told the New York Post. “I go, ‘No, you’re riding the f–king skateboard down every night.’”

Allin added, “I didn’t want to make it look like I was taking skateboarding and using that as like a marketing thing for wrestling. Then I said, ‘S–t, I really actually skate, so I might as well actually use it.’”

Despite not always winning, Allin has continued his rise up AEW through video packages that highlight his creativity and unique personality.

“I feel like people like Chris sees that,” Allin said. “They know that this kid wants it as opposed to someone who sits on their ass and waits to be told what to do. Half the time, I’m not told what to do and I just make a video. I’ll show up and be like, ‘Yo, put this on TV.’ It’s nice that way. He’s helped out a lot bringing that to the light of day.”

Jericho stated, “If you ask Darby who has been behind the scenes pulling the strings to make him a star, it’s Uncle Jericho.”

Though Allin and Jericho have yet to clash in a singles rematch, Allin continues to feud with The Inner Circle. He recently defeated Sammy Guevara at AEW Revolution.

Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Dynamite beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
