Chris Jericho Explains Why Match With Kenny Omega Was Good; Likes Being “Brock Lesnar Of New Japan”
The match against Kenny Omega was important to Chris Jericho for more than one reason.
Chris Jericho has made a splash in New Japan Pro Wrestling recently. He won the IWGP Intercontinental Championship at Dominion and at Wrestle Kingdom 12 had one of the most critically acclaimed matches of the year against Kenny Omega. In an interview with Inside the Ropes, Jericho talked about his match against Omega. He felt like it was a good match as soon as it was over and was receptive to the praise but he knows what is most important.
“When I see all the results and like ‘five star match…match of the night…match of the year candidate’, everybody likes to hear that and I like to hear it. More importantly it made me laugh at the people who didn’t think I could keep up,” said Jericho. “But, I’m also a twenty-seven year vet of the wrestling business and a disciple of Vince McMahon. What’s the most important thing about a match? Five stars is great but did it make money?,” he added.
Jericho said his match against Omega added ticket sales and New Japan World subscriptions. He also spoke about his part-time schedule with NJPW.
“It’s fun being kind of the Brock Lesnar of New Japan and that’s what I want,” said Jericho.
