Chris Jericho Explains How He Lived Vicariously Through Sammy Guevara During AEW Parlay

One week before AEW Blood & Guts on May 5, The Inner Circle and The Pinnacle met in the center of the ring for a parlay.

The parlay came together to determine who would have the advantage in the Blood & Guts match. Instead of the traditional coin flip, Sammy Guevara decided to take matters into his own hands and give Pinnacle the advantage.

Speaking on his Talk Is Jericho podcast, Jericho explained why the segment played out the way it did.

“People thought it was strange that Sammy basically took the disadvantage, but there were two reasons for that. One, I didn’t want to see a coin toss. It didn’t fit the vibe. We had been kicking the shit out of each other and verbally eviscerating each other. A coin toss didn’t seem right. I thought the idea of Spears knocking the coin out of Tony Schiavone’s hand, which leads to Sammy flipping out, that was Jericho living vicariously through Sammy. You have heard the rumors. I’m the idiot who took on Goldberg and Brock Lesnar. Thank God they didn’t kill me. When you get to a certain point, you’re like, ‘I don’t give a shit. I’ll fight anybody. I’ll fight all of you right now.’ That’s why Sammy said that. I wanted it to not go in the typical wrestling tropes,” said Jericho.

Jericho went on to praise everyone involved in the segment for their promos in hyping Blood & Guts, saying it showcased Guevara, Spears, FTR, Santana, and Ortiz in a new way.

Elsewhere during the podcast, Jericho discussed the finish to Blood & Guts and criticisms of the stunt spot. You can find his full comments by clicking here
