Chris Jericho Discusses His Future In Wrestling; Says He’s Done With The List
Chris Jericho knows he has options on the table.
It’s been a busy 2018 for Chris Jericho. He started the year by wrestling Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12, made an appearance at Raw 25 and the Greatest Royal Rumble, won the IWGP Intercontinental Title, showed up at All In, and booked his own wrestling cruise. Along with his wrestling appearances, he’s been on tour with his band Fozzy.
Speaking to Drew Dalby, Jericho discussed what’s next for him after a whirlwind year.
“Impact, I had a great conversation with them the other day in Toronto. There’s some great matches I could have there. Why wouldn’t I go if it was right? There’s a lot of matches in Japan that I would still like to have. Is Tony Khan opening his own company? I’ve heard nothing that says he’s not,” said Jericho “And of course, WWE is WWE and I have a 20-year history there. I could walk in the door tomorrow and know exactly what to do to get a reaction. I’ll tell you one thing: there won’t be a list. That’s done. I don’t feel it anymore. It doesn’t feel right. When I see DX for example, it doesn’t feel the same. They should change their name or something. But that’s their thing. My thing is to never do the same thing. That’s when people get bored of you.”
Jericho recently posted a photo of himself with Impact officials Don Callis, Ed Norholm and Scott D’Amore, sparking rumors that he was in talks with the company. It was previously reported that Jericho and Jim Ross were working with agent Barry Bloom and billionaire and Jacksonville Jaguars owner Tony Khan to launch a new wrestling company. Jericho laughed off the rumors that he was involved, but Khan does appear to have one foot in the door of the wrestling business. Recent trademarks filed by All Elite Wrestling, LLC had a registered address of TIAA Bank Field, home of the Jaguars
When asked about a possible “farewell tour” or a big send-off like the one Ric Flair received after WrestleMania 24, Jericho wasn’t too keen on the idea.
“I’ll never do the big ‘Say Goodbye to Ric Flair’ type thing. I can’t think of anything more cringeworthy for me. For Ric, it was awesome. But for me, I don’t want that. I want it to be, ‘maybe I’ve had my last match.’ I’m not gonna tell anybody. I’ll know.”
Jericho’s next wrestling appearance is scheduled for Jan. 4 at Wrestle Kingdom 13 where he is scheduled to face Tetsuya Naito. Jericho is currently “refusing” the bout, but NJPW continues to advertise the showdown.
