Chris Jericho: AEW’s Roster Is So Stacked That People May Not Even Notice I’m Gone While I’m On Tour

Chris Jericho is proud of how AEW has flourished.

When AEW first launched, Chris Jericho was by far the most recognized name on the roster. He has often said in interviews that he felt like that entire promotion was on his back at 1st and that challenge intrigued him and was one of the main reasons he decided to sign with the upstart promotion to begin with.

Now, as Chris Jericho looks to take time off while Fozy tours in Europe, Chris Jericho doesn’t have to worry as much about the AEW product as with the additions of names like CM Punk, Adam Cole, and Bryan Danielson, the roster has certainly grown beyond just having Chris Jericho as its one notable name that may attract casual fans.

Speaking with Newsweek, Chris Jericho explains why he no longer feels the risk when considering taking time off because of how stacked the roster has become since they first started in January of 2019.

“We started it and we made it something viable right out of the gate,” said Jericho, who will not be at Wednesday’s event in Elmont and is currently on tour with his bandmates in Ireland. “I’ll always take great pride in that and I’ll always take great pride in that fact that now I can be in Ireland on tour with Fozzy, missing a couple of weeks of Dynamite, and I don’t have to worry like I did before. Because now our roster has so many stars on it that they can take a couple of weeks with no Chris Jericho and some people might not even notice.”

As for when he will hang up the boots, Chris Jericho has said in prior interviews that he has never really given much thought to it, and even when he does have his last match, he will never have the theatrics surrounding some wrestling farewells.

Chris Jericho believes that all of the dramatics aren’t worth it and fans may never even truly know when they’ve seen the last of Chris Jericho. Read more of his comments here.
