Chief Deputy Dunne Responds To The The Talk Of WWE “Killing” The British Independent Wrestling Scene

The Chief speaks!

WWE recently wrapped up their second weekend of NXT U.K. TV tapings. During the latest which were held at the ‘National Exhibition Centre’ in Birmingham, England, the first-ever NXT U.K. Women’s Champion was crowned. On top of that historic moment taking place, a number of stars from the British wrestling scene partook in the tapings including the flamboyant Chief Deputy Dunne.

The former four-time ATTACK! 24:7 Champion who also goes by “Damien Dunne” plays the role of a deputy as he barks out orders to his opponents, partners and anyone who is in the ring with him. He was a part of the NXT U.K. TV tapings in Birmingham as well.

Deputy Dunne recently put down his bullhorn to do an interview with Mirror Sports’ Tony Quant and during their conversation Dunne was asked about the talk of WWE wiping out the British independent wrestling scene by having some of the best talents in the country signed.

“To be honest, it’s probably the first time I have been asked this. I’ve seen the talk of it, but my view point is I do not agree with that.” He said. “I don’t think it’s killing the scene because there are always more wrestlers. The wrestlers that are being signed up by WWE have been busting their backs to do it as a full time career for a long time and they are now getting that opportunity. But when they move up, there are so many more wrestlers waiting in the wings. I guess it’s like a step ladder: once one person goes up one rung, another goes up. Once people go to WWE, others now have the opportunity to headline shows and I think it’s a positive thing for wrestling in general.” Dunne stated. “With so many opportunities now with the likes of WWE, WOS Wrestling and other shows with TV tapings going on, it is a positive and exciting time for wrestling.”

Chief Deputy Dunne also discussed how he came up with his gimmick. To read the full interview with the head honcho of the ‘No Fun Police’, click here.
