Charlotte Flair: Before My Injury, I Was Doing Some Of The Best Work In My Career

Charlotte Flair discusses feeling like she was having one of the best runs in her career before going away in mid-2020 due to injury.

2020 was a rollercoaster year for Charlotte Flair. She started the year by making history and becoming the first-ever second-generation Royal Rumble winner. She would then make history by becoming the first person to win any NXT Championship at WrestleMania when she defeated Rhea Ripley inside of an empty WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

She would lose the championship at NXT TakeOver: In Your House when Io Shirai pinned Rhea Ripley in a triple threat match that headlined the show. Following this, she would go away until the month of December when she came back to become a Grand Slam Champion by defeating Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler, alongside Asuka, at WWE TLC.

Speaking with Sam Roberts on his NotSam Wrestling podcast, Charlotte Flair opened up about taking time off, feeling that she was doing some of the best work in her career, and giving the WWE Universe an opportunity to miss her presence for the first time.

“When I came back, I felt like it was the first time in my career that fans were given an opportunity to miss me and I think they did. When I came back, it went a different path. Now, how do you re-create being gone and coming back? I’m not content with just being Charlotte Flair. That’s not who I am and I’ll never be that way. Especially before I left with an injury, I really felt like I was doing some of my best work in my career. I know the NXT storyline wasn’t a focus on Raw, but I was doing some of my best work and promos. I had a blast in the triple threat with Io and Rhea. I want another impactful moment. I love that I made it here, but that’s not enough for me.”

Now, Charlotte Flair has made her intentions clear for this year’s WrestleMania. She wants to once again capture the WWE Raw Women’s Championship by defeating her former Tag Team Championship partner, Asuka.
