Charlotte Flair: “My Dad Couldn’t Hold A Candle To My Athleticism”

Charlotte Flair is confident in her athletic abilities, so much so that she believes it is better than her father Ric Flair.

In an interview with BT Sport, Charlotte spoke about the pressures of wrestling while being Ric’s daughter and said people might be more critical of her than usual because of her last name.

“I think people are highly critical because if I was anyone else’s daughter, or there was another wrestler whose daughter followed in his footsteps… it’s just my dad is Ric Flair – the greatest of all time. [Like him] I wear a robe but my dad couldn’t hold a candle to my athleticism and I would say that to his face. But naturally I carry his mannerisms without even thinking about it,” Charlotte said.

Despite Charlotte’s confidence in her athleticism being superior to that of her father’s, she did admit that she took one thing from him and that is his professionalism.

“I’ve only been wrestling for seven years and it just comes naturally but what I took from my dad is his professionalism, him being true to who he really is. What I mean by professionalism is his quote ‘you dress for the job you want, not the one you have’. He’s always in a suit, his costumes always went above and beyond, his showmanship and charisma – he’s a star. That’s what I really took from my dad,” Charlotte said.

BT Sport is now the new home of WWE programming in the UK after WWE’s deal with Sky ended. BT Sport will broadcast Raw, SmackDown, NXT and NXT UK starting in 2020.
