Charlotte Flair: Fans Thought I Was Ruining My Career By Supporting Andrade At TripleMania

On August 14, Charlotte Flair missed a WWE live event in Charlotte to attend TripleMania XXIX to support her fiance Andrade El Idolo.

Andrade previously revealed that Charlotte asked for time off months ago, which Charlotte backed up during an interview with Renee Paquette on Oral Sessions.

“Just seeing Manny [Andrade]…He’s like, ‘Mami, TripleMania is my WrestleMania.’ To see him go back to Mexico and be proud of himself and feel confident in himself and be the superstar that he is, especially in his home country, I was just like, ‘I’m not missing this for the world.’ I actually took off two and a half months ago from live events. If you know me, I haven’t asked for a live event in like five years — Actually, I’ve never asked off for a live event. I took off and said, ‘I wouldn’t miss it for the world,'” she said.

Andrade’s appearance at TripleMania got bigger as Ric Flair, who had recently obtained his WWE release accompanied him to the ring.

“Then, with my dad being gone (from WWE), I asked him on Wednesday, ‘What are you doing this weekend?’ He’s like, ‘Nothing honey, Why?’ I’m like, ‘You want to go to Mexico?’ ‘For what, Cancun? Don’t you have to work?’ ‘No, Dad, I’m not going to the beach. It’s Manny vs. Kenny.’ ‘Really? I’d love to watch it with you.’ ‘No, Dad, will you walk Manny to the ring?’ He was like, ‘You want me to walk Manny to the ring? Oh my God, yes, honey, please. What color is he wearing? I’ll get matching suits.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know dad, can we just get you there first?'” Charlotte recalled with a laugh. “When Manny asked me back in March, he felt deflated from not being on TV and what was happening, ‘What should I do? Tell me.’ I was like, ‘I can’t tell you what to do and I can’t beg you to stay even though our life is together on the road because you’ll resent me. You need to spread your wings and do what you need to do. If you want to come back, I’ll always be here and I’ll always support you.’ It was the best thing for him. My dad said yes to coming to Mexico…he wasn’t able to get his white suit made in time, but let me tell you a little story; My dad met me in Pittsburgh to fly to Mexico, but all of his flights were delayed to get from Atlanta to Pittsburgh. He rented a jet just to get to Pittsburgh. That’s how much it meant to be by Manny in AAA. It was amazing.”

Flair would get involved in the match, chopping Kenny Omega and putting Konnan in the figure four.

When asked about fan response to missing the WWE event to be with Andrade, Charlotte replied, “I actually thought people would be like, ‘Wow, that’s how much her relationship means to her.’ People were thinking that I was ruining my career. Part of my career is who I am in my real life. Part of my career is Manny helping me and pushing me and supporting me and all these different experiences in my life. That’s what makes me grow as a performer. I’ve grown in front of ya’ll over the years. I was really surprised. People aren’t surprised by my dad. He’s going to be chopping and figure-fouring anywhere. My dad, genuinely, he was proud to be out there with Manny. That’s how much he means to him and he knows Manny is going to be the man who is going to take care of me when he’s gone. It’s like the passing of the torch.”

Andrade was defeated by Kenny Omega, failing to capture the AAA Mega Championship.
