Chad Gable Recalls Doubting Himself And Finding His Confidence Again In WWE And With Otis

Chad Gable is doing the most high-profile work of his career on WWE Raw, teaming with Otis in a feud with Randy Orton & Riddle.

Gable has always been highly touted for his in-ring skills, but it didn’t always translated to consistent television time.

Speaking on WWE After The Bell, Gable admitted he would doubt himself over the years.

“The fact that I’m finally getting a chance to show this and do this is the most rewarding and self re-assuring thing. never in my life, really, until the last few years in this company, have I ever doubted myself. There is something about this and what we do that sometimes you tend to doubt yourself. I’ve never experienced that before. I went through it and coming out the other side and be able to show that I didn’t need to do that, I needed to have confidence and maintain the confidence I always had is really nice. It’s kind of wild that it all began on a chance promo that we were given in Detroit,” said Gable.

Gable continued, recalling the promo he and Otis on Raw as part of the Orton & Riddle feud.

“We got to open the show in Detroit right before New Years, it was a 90-second walking promo and we never really got that chance before and they kind of gave me free rein on it. There was some stuff to talk about and we were addressing Randy (and Riddle), but it was open-ended and I ran with it and I felt so comfortable playing this character and bring this part out of me that was in there for so long. To be honest, some of this stuff goes back to NXT and we had done these promo classes and some of the stuff I’m doing now, if you saw some of the stuff from 2014-15 in NXT, you would see it coming and being applied here in a new way with this character It’s always been there, it’s always been just navigating the waters and trying to wait for that right moment and apply it in the right way. For whatever reason, and this is how I found life works, the stars just align. You keep plugging away, keep your head down, and it sounds cliche but there have been moments where I wanted to throw in the towel and wanted to give up and say I can’t do it, but seeing that through and getting through those moments is what made it so rewarding. ‘Thank God you stuck with it and knew it was going to work out.’ I have Otis to thank because he’s given me the platform to play this character and be this coach and mentor to him and really bring that out of me. It’s been awesome,” said Gable.

Gable & Otis lost a Quiz Bowl on Monday’s WWE Raw to Riddle & Orton. With their victory in the Quiz Bowl, Riddle & Orton earned a Raw Tag Team Title shot.
