Cesaro Speaks Out On Where He Was Drafted, Doesn’t Want Authority Figure Drama
Tuesday’s WWE Draft saw a major shuffling of the cards, but former Intercontinental Champion Cesaro didn’t seem too happy about it.
“The Swiss Superman” appeared on WWE Network’s Draft Center, and looked dejected about being picked to go to Monday Night Raw. Cesaro spoke out about the way Raw has operated in the past, and says that he wants more of a focus on the actual wrestlers.
“I’m not too happy to be drafted 17th in the sixth round. I should be drafted a little bit higher, at least top ten,” Cesaro said. “Just looking at the rosters, and what the GMs talked about yesterday — how SmackDown is going to be the wrestling show and all about in-ring product, and about the Superstars and not necessarily about the GMs and that whole drama — I feel like I would have been a better fit for SmackDown.”
Cesaro made note that he’s had to overcome glass ceilings before in the WWE, and that he wants to continue doing so on the flagship program, Raw.
“Just like in my career so far here, there’s always a little stumble block or whatever that I have to overcome. I’m looking forward to being on the flagship product. I’m trying to see the positive,the flagship product, WWE Raw, that’s where Cesaro belongs.”
Cesaro closed by criticizing the fact that he’s been unable to express himself on the microphone, adn reiterated his point that the central focus should be on in-ring talent, not authority figure drama.
“That’s part of the problem — that you just asked me that question. I don’t really care. I think Raw, going forward, needs to be about the Superstars. Not about how Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley co-exist. They need to be there to mediate and make the best show, but that doesn’t need to be the focus. The focus should be on the Superstar who got drafted. We have Seth Rollins, we have New Day, we have Finn Bálor coming up from NXT — those are the people we should be here talking about, but we’re talking about Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley, which is annoying to me.”
