Bruce Prichard Says WWE Had No Interest In Randy Savage In 1999
Randy Savage returned to WCW in April 1999 after a brief hiatus with the company. Savage was sporting a new look and was accompanied by his girlfriend Gorgeous George. Savage would go on to win the WCW World Heavyweight Title that year and remain fairly active.
During the year, there were rumors that Savage and WWE could reunite after they split in 1994.
According to Bruce Prichard on a recent episode of Something to Wrestle With, there wasn’t much to the rumors of Savage’s return.
“The last conversations I had with Randy was 96-97. During [1999], from our vantage point, there wasn’t really any interest in Randy. But there were rumblings out there. His girlfriend Gorgeous George was floating out, testing the waters with her agent and Randy’s agent, just seeing who would be interested. It was a lead to us that she was available, ‘is there any interest and, by the way, would there be any interest in Randy Savage?’ To my knowledge, when it was brought to anything I was involved with, there wasn’t any interest at that point for Randy. They thought it was too much. We’d have to pay way too much for him to get Gorgeous George, that nobody really knew. What’s that value and what’s she worth? Beautiful young lady, but I don’t know what else she’s done. Asking a lot of money. There were agents floating things out and feeding this to dirtsheets and press to boost their price. It wasn’t that big of a deal,” he commented.
Savage made his last appearance in WCW in 2000. He never returned to WWE before his untimely death in 2011. He was inducted posthumously into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015.
