Bruce Prichard Opens Up About Vince McMahon’s Relationship With His Top Superstars

Wrestling fans have often heard rumors about Vince McMahon growing an infatuation for the Superstars that reach the top of his company.

Bruce Prichard addresses these rumors on the latest episode of his Something To Wrestle podcast when discussing Vince McMahon’s feelings about Shawn Michaels and Kevin Nash in 1995. Conrad Thompson would directly ask Bruce about the idea of Vince really falling into favor with certain talent in an effort to better build a vision for the future of the promotion.

Bruce would respond by saying oftentimes, this type of relationship is born out of a relationship on the opposite end of the spectrum, “Well, that’s accurate, but, you know, I think that a lot of it starts, most of the time, it will start from a whole different relationship. I mean, Shawn Michaels wasn’t Vince’s favorite person in the beginning,” said the former Brother Love. “But, when [the top star gets] to that point, yeah, you got to have a strong relationship and a strong bond to be able to work together is as closely as we all do.”

Bruce would go on to say Vince very much values the input of his top stars but sometimes, the bond doesn’t build the way it is intended to, “Vince wants their input just as much as anything because they’re the guys out there carrying that ball and they’re the ones that are putting the company on their back. So, yeah. But that relationship is built over time. It’s not like, ‘God, I love you and I’m gonna make you champ,’” Bruce continued. “It’s, ‘We’re gonna put this on you and we’re gonna get through it together.’ And if a bond builds, a bond builds, sometimes the bond doesn’t build.”

Currently, Vince McMahon and WWE are in a period of transition as Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff continue growing in their roles as executive director as of Monday Night Raw and WWE SmackDown respectively.
