Bruce Prichard explains why he hates the line “creative has nothing for you.”
Prichard, the Executive Director of WWE Raw and SmackDown, has had a lengthy WWE career, and he has contributed to the company in a variety of ways over the years. He has worked closely with talent, and he was watched plenty of them leave the company. Many times, “creative has nothing for you” is often the rumored line of reasoning for releases.
Speaking on Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard, Conrad Thompson brought up Trevor Murdoch getting released in 2008. Thompson notes that Murdoch was reportedly told creative had nothing for him by John Laurinaitis. When asked why Murdoch was released, Prichard noted that he didn’t know. He also made it clear that he has always hated the line “creative has nothing for you,” as sometimes it’s best to be direct with talent.
“I don’t know. I really don’t know. Whether something happened that just was kept from everybody, or who the hell ever really knows sometimes? Sometimes it’s budget reasons where you look at it and go, ‘Hey, we’re over so much, and here’s that number,’ and you find it that way. But I’ve always hated, from day one, always hated ‘creative has nothing for you.’ That was, in my opinion, a cheap way to have to let someone go. Sometimes, you just have to say, ‘Look, man. We’re making cuts, and unfortunately, we gotta cut you at this time. The door’s never shut, door’s always open. Things can happen.’ But I have no idea what the reason was for Trevor to be cut. No idea at all,” Prichard said.
Prichard recently stated that he is a storyteller, not a writer. Check out his comments here.
