The title became vacant due to Keith Lee relinquishing it at the start of tonight’s NXT. Two weeks after making history as the first dual NXT and North American Champion at the Great American Bash, Lee opened the show by announcing that he is vacating the title in order to focus his efforts on defending the NXT Championship.
As a result, NXT General Manager William Regal announced that the new champion will be crowned in a ladder match at NXT TakeOver 30. The participants will be decided with a series of triple threat matches where the winners advance to the ladder match at TakeOver, taking place next month.
